If you need to send a file or take it with you to work, an email account or a USB drive is all you need, but it is a completely different matter if you have to transfer huge amounts of data. One of the many services that Google provides is Google Drive, which gives you the possibility of synchronizing files between several computers, over the Internet. All you have to do is copy your files to a certain folder and Google Drive will make them available on an online account and on other computers.

Like all Google services, Google Drive is absolutely free. It provides 15 GB of free storage space and you can get up to 16 TB if you pay a monthly subscription. The desktop application can be installed in a few seconds. You just need to run the installation file and the setup wizard will do the rest. When the installation process is complete, you will have to sign into a Google account if you have one.

Google Drive links all your computers to your online account. It also creates a sync folder on your computer. Any files you store in this folder will be uploaded to your online account automatically, regardless of their format or size. You can open the Google Drive folder instantly, through the application's system tray icon. The same icon can be used to launch Google Drive's web interface, on your default browser, on which you can manage your uploaded data.

The synchronization process works both ways. Any modifications you make to your files on the web interface will reflect in real time in your local folder. Furthermore, if you link more than one computer to your online account, the application will synchronize your changes on all machines, regardless of where you make them. The best part is that you don't have to keep remote computers turned on to synchronize files. For example, you can store your data in the Google Drive folder at home and find them on your work computer when you turn it on.

Pros

You can synchronize huge amounts of data between two or more computers. The synchronization process works both ways, which means that your changes will be made automatically on all the machines that are linked to your online account.

Cons

You can't set up your own sync folders. Google Drive gives you the possibility of accessing your personal data from anywhere in the world, in a fast, simple and comfortable manner.
